The assignment for your Civil Rights Movement research project sends you into the heart of the Civil Rights Movement and asks you to reflect on the impact that various people and events of the Movement have had on Americans today.

SEARCH ENGINES

Librarians' Index to the Internet (www.lii.org) is sponsored by the Library of California and is more than just a search engine.  It's actually a library online.  Each link comes with a detailed description.  Great for in-depth information without having to wade through the advertising.

Ixquick (www.ixquick.com) is a meta search engine that ranks its results and offers highlighted versions of each hit.  You can search for pictures, too.

Clusty (www.clusty.com) is a  meta search engine that organizes its hits and offers suggestions for more specific searches.

Academy of Achievement (www.achievement.org)  Search individuals.  Great biographies.

PBS.org (www.pbs.org) Search both individuals and events.  Excellent site.

The Internet Public Library Biographical Resource   Search individuals or scroll the page for categories that pertain to your topic. (www.ipl.org/div/subject/browse/ref15.00.00)

The Library of Congress  (www.loc.gov/ammem/collections/robinson/jr1940.html)  Click on the timeline 1940-1946 for information on Jackie's first years in baseball.

Biography.com (www.biography.com)  A great source for biographical information.

DATABASE

ABC-CLIO American History will be an invaluable resource.  The username is festival.  You will need to see your teacher or librarian for the password.
